Underpinning any instrumental learning are the general musicianship skills which form a firm foundation of understanding and create a springboard for rapid progress as physical coordination matures. These sessions are suitable for children who may consider learning any instrument in the future.
I have found that teaching piano to children as young as 4 or 5 is fine for a few, but most will benefit far more from small group musicianship sessions before moving onto individual lessons as their physical coordination matures. So I am excited to be able to offer group sessions to Glenesk School pupils as an after school option. I supply each child with their very own copy of the beautiful Ready to play Off we go! book (£15.50) and this will form the backbone of our Kodaly based musicianship activities and games. It focuses on early piano skills so if you have a piano or keyboard at home, that is great, but not essential. Once we move on to individual lessons, an acoustic piano or digital with full sized, fully-weighted keys is needed. Please ask for further details if you would like advice on this.
